Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott is a poignant romance novel that centers on two teenagers, Stella Grant and Will Newman, who both suffer from cystic fibrosis (CF), a life-threatening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. Due to their condition, both are required to stay in a hospital for regular treatments and are forced to maintain a strict regimen of physical distance from others to avoid cross-contamination, which could worsen their health.

Stella is a meticulous and responsible young woman who is focused on managing her CF, keeping her life organized, and following all the necessary rules. Will, on the other hand, is a rebellious teenager who has become disillusioned with his life and the constant battle with his illness. When the two meet at the hospital, there is an instant connection between them, but their circumstances force them to stay "five feet apart" to ensure their safety.

As their relationship deepens, they fall in love, but their love is complicated by the constant threat of their disease, their isolation, and the rules that govern their lives. Despite the emotional and physical barriers, they find ways to share moments of joy, vulnerability, and connection, learning about love, life, and hope along the way.

Five Feet Apart explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the desire to live fully despite facing seemingly insurmountable challenges. It’s a moving story about the difficulties of living with a chronic illness, the importance of human connection, and the emotional toll of being separated from those we care about.
